Yahoo Answers: Budgies

My pet budgerigar died today, he had a tumor, and we had it removed, but it grew back so fast it burst the stitches and he died. Though to be fair, he was 9 years old, which is pretty good for a budgie. He had a mate, Lolly, that he loved very much. She died last year, though he remained in good spirits. He was by her side during her last 24 hours; he even brought her treats and toys when she was too weak to reach them. He was all around a very good pet , and I miss him already. I hope he and Lolly are reunited in Heaven. So I have several questions: Did you ever have a pet that died, and if so, what were your last words to him/her? Would you like to have said something else?

They are in a large outdoor aviary (7'x7'x7') so space wouldnt be much of an issue. However, they are a pair and breed frequently so I dont know if that will affect what I can keep with them. I would love a conure but I've heard that doesn't work out too often. Would a pair of budgies or parakeets work? Or even a third tiel? I'm really unsure of what to do. Oh and as for the birds' personalities: my male can be a bit peckish with its babies atleast. I dont know if that is how all tiels are but he sometimes pulls off their head feathers when they are young, but leaves them alone after they are older. I think he does it to keep them from trying to feed with him. the female on the other hand is very mellow and shy.

When I go to bed, I close the curtains and cover my bird cages with a blanket. Then I turn the light out and go to bed. Almost immediantly my zebra finches start flapping around the cage uncontrollably. It scares me! I can hear them banging against the side of the cage:( I turned the light back on, took the blanket off and whistled to them. I always whistle to my birds, they start singing with me, it's cute, lol:) They were better for awhile but started up again soon afterwards. Is this a night fright? what can I do about it? Our house is haunted, I don't know if that effects them. My 2 budgies are perfectly fin though, they never have any issues. thank you

i seroisly need huge help on budgie i need to know how they breed, how old they need to be to breed,if a nest box is recommned if i should play with them more ofthen cuz they dont have toys, should i buy cat toys for them, should i get a nest box now that they are only 6 months old male and 6 month old female,if they should be with each other, how to get them to be my buddy, how to make them more frendly... I know this is a lot but i would really love help or at least links to budgie websites. oh ya try www.runescape.com my user name is Momo is back

how can i get my budgies to breed without a nest box i know that they have to be 1 years old to breed but then i just need some tips. I see my budgies always ethier doing something together or rub there beeks and share food. And one more thing, I have a male and a female budgie.

My sister has 2 guinea pigs which she keeps in a large plastic and wire cage indoors. Their claws grow very quickly and curl. I usually go and clip their claws for her while she holds them. I probably clip them a little long as I'm worried about hurting them. Their claws are too thick to see where the blood vessel is. We were just wondering if anyone could suggest something we could put in their cage to keep them worn down. We thought about the sheets you put at the bottom of a budgie cage, but thought they might chew them. She can't keep them outside so if anyone has any suggestions I'd be very grateful

Now I'm scared she'll die of loneliness , I printed out a close-up picture of the male and stuck it to the side of the cage so she could feel like he's still there , she seems depressed(I know I am , i've been sobbing all day , it was so hard burying him , I've had them for 5 years and I got really attached to both) Now am I being paranoid or Do you think she'll be ok , Suggestions ?

Can I feed my budgie fruits and/or vegetables? thank you

like homemade ones.... we were thinking our old oven on the lowest setting with the door open, wrapped in a towel or would that somehow inadverently cook it...? well it's pretty humid where i live.... and the parents keep eating the eggs....and they don't sell incubators where i live either unless i want to ship one from europe of america or something, which i don't...

can you get your budgie pregnante without a male budgie or any thing else thanks bye ;)

My roommate recently got a budgie. He was dropped off at a pet store because he was found loose outdoors. He was clearly someone's pet because he has a tag on his ankle and his flight wings were clipped. He was obviously traumatized when we got him, but the people said that he seemed used to being handled. For the first several days he'd freak out and flutter around a bit when we'd stick our hands in the cage for any reason, but he's getting better and no longer spazzes out when we reach in there. The problem is that none of us have any experience with birds, and don't know HOW to handle him, and frankly we're a bit scared he'll bite. Any tips for first-timers on picking up a bird?

Two Irishmen walk into a pet shop in Dingle, they walk over to the bird section and Gerry says to Paddy, 'Dat's dem.' The owner comes over and asks if he can help them. 'Yeah, we'll take four of dem dere little budgies in dat cage up dere,' says Gerry. The owner puts the budgies in a cardboard box. Paddy and Gerry pay for the birds, leave the shop and get into Gerry's truck to drive to the top of the Connor Pass. At the Connor Pass, Gerry looks down at the 1000 foot drop and says, 'Dis looks like a grand place.' He takes two birds out of the box, puts one on each shoulder and jumps off the cliff. Paddy watches as the budgies fly off and Gerry falls all the way to the bottom, killing himself stone dead. Looking down at the remains of his best pal, Paddy shakes his head and says, 'Fook dat. Dis budgie jumping is too fook'n dangerous for me!' THERE'S MORE... Moment's later; Seamus arrives up at Connor Pass. He's been to the pet shop too and walks up to the edge of the cliff carrying another cardboard box in one hand and a shotgun in the other. 'Hi, Paddy, watch dis,' Seamus says. He takes a parrot from the box and lets him fly free. He then throws himself over the edge of the cliff with the gun. Paddy watches as half way down, Seamus takes the gun and shoots the parrot. Seamus continues to plummet down and down until he hits the bottom and breaks every bone in his body. Paddy shakes his head and says, 'And I'm never trying dat parrotshooting either!' IT IS NOT OVER YET... Paddy is just getting over the shock of losing two friends when Sean appears. He's also been to the pet shop and is carrying a cardboard box out of which he pulls a chicken. Sean then takes the chicken by its legs and hurls himself off the cliff and disappears down and down until he hits a rock and breaks his spine. Once more Paddy shakes his head. 'Fook dat, lads. First dere was Gerry with his budgie jumping, den Seamus parrotshooting... And now Sean and his fook'n hengliding!'

I was wondering how the female will go into breeding mood. the male tries climbing on the females back and the female just backs off. they feed each other. also they have a breeding box in the aviary.

I HAVE 2 BUDGIES AND THEY ARE SO NOISY I HATE THEM AND IN THE MORNING IM GOING TO FINK ABIUT LETTING THEM FLY AWAY

he sits on my head

Tomorrow I am picking up two budgies and bringing them home. I can't fit the cage in my car and they told me I have to bring a box to transport them in. What kind of box would be suitable for this?

i have four budgies and i think theres only one male out of all of them.. if he even IS a male.. but the rest im sure are females.. last night i found an egg in the cage but it was on the floor of the cage and it was cracked on the side.. this morning when i woke up my mom was tryin to get two of the females to stop fighting and i checked, the egg was gone.. now one of the birds is bleeding from the beak/nose area, i took her out and cleaned her beak and made sure the bleeding stopped.. which it has.. i have no way of gettin to a pet store to get a separate cage to be able to separate them... what should i do? and would anyone know if the egg is what they were fighting over cause maybe one broke the egg or something? this is the first time they've ever fought like this.. i dont know what to do..

My sister gave me a sky blue budgie (male) she had had for four years. About two years ago, he lost his mate, a little green budgie. He has been alone since. I know budgies are social and it's cruel to leave one alone so I got a female Dark Eyed Clear (totally white with black eyes) budgie as a companion. He tries to feed her, grooms her, but then pecks at her and sometimes yells at her. Sometimes when she is eating or drinking he will go after her as well; not so much now that I have 2 feeders and waterers in the cage. And it is a large cage. There have been no major all-out attacks, just the nipping and yelling. Then he goes back to trying to groom her. She pretty much ignores him. Once in a while she will peck back at him though. I keep them in separate cages when I will be gone and at night. Does it sound like he has accepted her or should I still keep them separated when no one will be around? They have been sharing a cage now for three days.

He doesn't seem in distress, he's playful today.. But for a couple days lately, he's been playing with his toys for the first time, then leaning over to the right and raising his left foot. Every time I notice he does this, he keeps getting closer to the bar. Earlier, he was nearly parallel to his perch. Is he just being silly? I thought about the perch, but he has a rope perch too that he never uses.. I'm working on a few branch perches, but they're rather expensive around here.

Hi I'd like some Budgie advice if possible? We bought one at the weekend and he is about 7 weeks old. We noticed in the pet shop that he has no claws but felt sorry for him and didn't mention it to the shop. Anyway he has trouble sitting on his perch and falls if he tries to move along it etc... should I be worried or will they grow with age??? Thanks in advance for answers...x In the shop he was very very affectionate and sat at the front of the cage letting me rub his belly and sitting on my finger, he's been more shy at home but I'm guessing this is just him settling in. I really adore my Billy and couldn't take him back but I think I will get in contact with the pet shop and let them know. He seems to have problems flying around the cage but maybe he's never been out before. I plan on letting him fly around my room this weekend and see how he is...my poor baby!

is there any way i can breed my budgies without a breeding box???? HELP FULL ANSWERS ONLY PLEASE THANKS!

I have a blue budgie that always stays on its swing or on the floor when i scare it. I need help taming my bird. evrytime i put my hand around it it gets a scared and jumps of.so please give me tips or a website. thankyou

I've raised budgies for the past 3 years. I've always provided them with different toys, cuttle bones, and concrete perches to wear down their beaks. I adopted two young budgies in February. These budgies refuse to touch their cuttlebone and only seldomly do I see them rubbing their beaks on their concrete perch. Their beaks are beginning to get a bit overgrown. I know proper beak length is essential to good health. As a last resort I will take them in to get their beaks cut by their vet and I am too wary to do it myself. Are there any other methods that I could try? What works for your budgies, if you own any? Thank you!

..I need to make sure I can send it to America!

My male budgie is about 6 months old, but he and my female budge (1ish year old) mated and had eggs. Could they still be fertile? They ate most of them, if that helps any... thanks oh yeah and because the mom/dad ate the eggs, is that bad for them? Will it harm them in any way...? Should I separate the parents / one of the parents from the remaining egg? thanks

I just fed my budgies carrots can they eat it? Or will it kill them?

ok so my budgie laid 4 eggs and she/the dad have already eaten 3!!! what do i do?? it's so sad, my daughter's heartbroken... should we remove the one lasting egg or wait? ---they had used up all their cuttlebone and stuff a week ago and i wasn't able to get new one till today, was it because they were lacking something like that (calcium) to chew on and gnaw? well i bought three cuttlebones just in case so maybe that'll help, or should i separate the egg from the parents? thanks!

The mum is yellow (Daisy )and the dad is blue (Sky). She laid an egg on the floor of the cage and she sat on it. I moved her in a nest-box but she didn't like it she was scared and making the crying nosie but she laid another egg on the floor again so I left her there, daisy laid 6 eggs and only three hatched and they are all green. Why all green? Daisy let me look at them from the day they hatched, I looked and checked them out make sure they are healthy and fine. Now they are 5 weeks old now - 2 of them bite really hard but 1 is friendly. He waits at the door of the cage to come out to see me and have a cuddle He’s on my lap now preening my hand. WHY does the other two chicks bite when I looked at them same and cuddled them :o(

well i got two budgies my boy budgie seems older than my girl budgie. my girl budgie cere just tanned yesterday.so is it possible to breed them even if the girl is young and the boy is old... please help.....it will be very generous of you... best answer 10 points why do my two bird always want to chirp to budgies outside in the wild, does that mean they are talking about breeding or something???

I reckon 2 years ts a BudgIE & it yellow

i have heared that green budgies are more playfull than other budgies.is that true.

1.plastic or wood nesting box? 2.the nesting inside the cage or outside? 3.what type of stuffings?

its one of my baby budgies who is now grown up. and i know its pretty crap. im no good at photographry but please look and tell me what u think. also, what feelings do u think it expresses?? http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj162/karma-iris/babybird2.jpg

i dont know if they have shoulders but thats what it looks like ☺ and sometimes he will lean his head, like its heavy on one side ☺

ok: 1) Do the eggs need any sort of electric light? what would work for that? or is just their dark nesting box and any filtered in sunlight ok? (not direct sunlight though) 2) Is it ok for humans to touch/handle the eggs to check for punctures, etc.? Will this cause the mom to abandon the eggs or something? 3) On of the eggs was punctured. Should I remove it from the nesting box? 4) Is there any sort of special foods I need to be feeding the parents? What do the babies eat? Should I put some food IN the nesting box as well as the cage? 5) Will it be ok for use to handle the chicks? 6) What's the time distance between clutches? 7) ....uuuuumm...think that's it:) answer any or all, anything is appreciated... thanks in advance:) Oh yeah and how often can I clean the nesting box? How do I go about that? Can I handle the eggs?

My husband and I bought two budgies about a week and a half ago. They are young enough where we are unable to determine their genders. During the day, one bird often squawks loudly (like yelling) at the other. It gets pretty annyoing. Usually shushing them or talking to them makes them quiet down...for a while. Most of the time they seem to like each other (always sitting together and grooming each other - they even play together when they're not in the cage). I just can't figure out why one is yelling at the other. :( Any advice? I do accept their behavior - I'm just asking if there's anything to do about it, or if anyone has any insight as to why they do it.

Can anyone elaborate on what they look like or if they are similar in behavior to any other kinds of pet birds? My GF wants one

I've done everything I've been told. I got him used to the house. I got him to start chirping when I say his name or open the curtains. I can put my hand in the cage and set it on the perches without him flapping or running away. I've been told that now all I have to do is push my finger against his chest, right? Wrong! The closest I can get is to touch his toe, then he runs away or flaps furiously. I've been at it for weeks and there hasn't been much of a change. Any ideas?

I'm situated in the Greenwich area so if anybody knows anywhere near there then that would be great!
