are there any parakeet breeders in northeast ohio?

Question by prudence: are there any parakeet breeders in northeast ohio?
Bought a parakeet 3 weeks ago from Pet Supplies Plus. He was a sweet little thing, but they knew nothing about him. He was very active and did not show any signs of illness. Then lastnight he just dropped from his perch and died.I am very upset.I need to know where I can purchase a bird from someone who knows about birds.

Loser parakeet in poor health?! Bad nutrition? Losing color? Terrible attitude on life?!?

Question by A. Venger x2 [Mrs. Chizz]: Loser parakeet in poor health?! Bad nutrition? Losing color? Terrible attitude on life?!?
My parakeet, I fear, is miserable. He has been losing color and has developed some brown spots around his nostrils. His beak looks like it’s chipping and doesn’t look as strong as it used to. I have been trying to get him to eat greens and fruits, but I don’t think he’s into it. We had a mineral treat in his cage for months, but he’s ignored that, too. What could be wrong?

Also, he just sucks at loving life. Or I suck at entertaining/bonding with him. I try to get him out of his cage and let him fly around every day, but he stays in the same spots and gets angry when I try to handle him.

…Help?
Also, do parakeets have such thing as a fun drive? Is it possible that he is bored out of his mind? Am I making him unhappy, or is that in my mind? I provide him with toys, but he ignores them too. He does enjoy admiring his reflection in the mirror, however.

Losing colour ? Moulting

Brown spots on the cere ? HE is a SHE. not maybe but definitely.

Its simple. Your budgie is a female who is not only moulting but showing she is almost in breeding condition. At these times they get real cranky and some get really withdrawn and show signs they arent all that well.
Make sure the nutrition is excellent at this stage especially protein. You can feed some boiled mashed egg or even some cooked chicken if she will eat it.
This is no time to be adding another budgie.

PS breeding condition does not mean old enough to breed.

My Budgie died of old age :( Should I get another one?

Question by chickingirl19: My Budgie died of old age :( Should I get another one?
Last night, I went to the cage of my two female budgies and found my 7 year old female on the floor of the cage, she was dead :( She wasn’t ill, she was quite healthy, regular vet checks etc. She just died of old age. Now my other female, Darla, is alone. I lifted her cover off her cage this morning and she was sitting on her swing, looking at her friend’s empty swing. She didn’t sing, she didn’t have her morning bath when I gave her the basin of water, she just sat on her swing and looked pitiful. I swear she’s mourning her companion’s death. I know the cause of death isn’t illness, so would it be safe to introduce a new budgie to her? I’m worried she won’t accept the new budgie, maybe it’s too soon? Should I wait for her to acknowledge that her friend isn’t coming back and let her have some alone time before introducing a new friend? Please only answers from “bird” people who understand that budgies have feelings too. I am very attached to my birds and want them to be happy.

Question by Jack: My budgie has brittle “spikes” coming out of his head,is he ill?
My 4 month old budgie had weird, damp looking feathers on his head, just above his cere and covered in dots. Now they have gone and have been replaced with weird brittle, white stems. He doesn’t look like he is in pain and is very active. Could someone please explain what is going on?
