How to get my new Parakeet to start chirping?
Question by kvnniv: How to get my new Parakeet to start chirping?
I just got a blue parakeet last sunday. I know that it takes a few days for the birds to get used to their new environments, but he has just been sitting in the same spot doing nothing except for the occasional meal, making no noise. Is there something that I can do that will make him happier and begin to chirp? Any music or certain toys that parakeets love that makes them happier?

Is my parakeet afraid of his new toy?
Question by NY Help: Is my parakeet afraid of his new toy?
I just got a parakeet 2.5 weeks ago and recently bought him a toy parakeet to put in his cage. Since I put the toy in the cage my bird stands in the same position as the toy bird and just stares at it. Should I take it out of the cage or not worry about it?

Take it out if you’ve got enough time to spend with him yourself…if not, then maybe he’d be better off with a real playmate.

Get him a mirror so he thinks he has a friend. Seriously, I worked in a pet store for a long time, this usually works. If it’s not that check his ambient temperature. If it’s way too hot or cold they won’t be very active.

Bells, ladders and swings are the best toys for budgies. Budgies love swings and if you get them a swing each, they will go to sleep swinging together. They also love bells and ladders as it gives them noise and things to chew. In my experience, canary seed is a good food to give budgies. yes canary seed. It has a good varietty of seeds. Fruit and vegetablesshould be given as well as boiled egg and shell gritt. Yo can get a cage cleaner from most pet shops however, if you want to save money, laundry soap or household disenfectant is just as good. Just be sure to wash off all the soap/chemicals before drying and always take the budgie out of the cage when cleaning. That is pretty much all they will need. Water should be given twice a day in the hotter months and once a day in the cooler months. Shreeded paper or shelgritt as a substrate is a good choice.
I hoped this helped

Why does my budgie parakeet pace on his perch?
Question by Kelsey: Why does my budgie parakeet pace on his perch?
I have had this budgie for 2 and a half weeks. We got him as a companion for our other budgie that we had about a week or two before we got him. We got them a bigger cage when we bought the new one and they have lots of toys. They get about an hour out of the cage each every day. He paces and I was wondering if I should be concerned. He also flies head on into walls, which really worries me.
