My budgie LOVES oranges. I take an orange and slice a sliver big enough to fit through her cage and she'll peck at that thing until it's gone . . . every single time.

We just got a budgie, he is 9 years old and looks very healthy, how often is it required to clean the cage!! I am told once a week, is it seriously true that their poop can make a human sick, I mean to me that seems very over done, as Budgie's are meant to be kept as pets, so why if the case, would they say they or their poop is air born and harmful to humans health? Makes no sense to me. If it was dangerous to have a pet bird/Budgie in your home, why are they saying that their poop ect is unhealthy to humans. Is this true, because it makes no sense, if they were dangerous to humans health why would they be allowed to be kept as a pet?

Thanks

i actually disagree with jyconan the last thing i would resort to would be the mirror. the mirror is like putting a child in front of the tv because they wont play with their toys. u should maybe try getting him a friend or you can rearrange his toys in the cage mabey put a treat at the top of his ladder and he'll climb up it if not mabey he is just a bit scared of them and needs some time to get used to them hope this helps

When I first got my budgie, I read out loud from a book to her. That got her used to my voice and by the second day, she was happily making noise. Budgies love company and by spending time with him and getting him used to your voice, he will gladly make accompanying noise and bond with you really fast.

I have four budgies and only one does this. She just likes the sound it makes. She does it on the sides of the cage and the top of the cage (they make different sounds you know!).
It does not bother anyone in my home, in fact, we enjoy it.

I too have the same problem... he has this brown gunk coming up from the holes on top of his beak...it sticks to the feathers and then her rubs his face on the perch and now the feathers have come out around his eyes. Sad to say because it was christmas, nothing was open where we live. today i bought the chicken tetracycline...I started warming up the room he stays in and he seems to be much more active... he is eating like crazy right now. I hope it is not too late as his beak has a crack from all the rubbing, his eye looks a little swollen today too. He took one taste of the water and a couple licks off my finger. as for cleaning him, He is just not that tame. He gets mad if i put anything near him. he will hop on my hand and drink from my finger though, so here's hoping you are right and it is not too late. Sooo many websites get it all wrong when you describe this problem and think it is colouration we are talking about... no one but you seemed to get that we mean he has a brown gunk stuck all over his head. Thanks for the advice!!!!!
