AUSTRALIA's WILD PARROTS & COCKATOOS - PBS SPECIAL:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWZpXuJ4-Ys

The sweet potato and grain mix was yummy too, but Winston was really digging that spinach (which he is not given very often).

Ok so I know the majority of my poll result was actually in favour of 'Coconut', but I was trying it out last night and he just didn't seem to approve. Plus he's more blue than white... Anywho. for these reasons and more, I have finally, after weeks of owning the poor budgie and putting him through the trauma of having his brother/sister murdered by inexperience and wrong advice from a pet shop (telling me that budgies need grit - ggrrrr!) my bird finally has a name :)

My favourite picture in the world!

He's getting a bit gray around the ends... how do I go about bathing him? he's only a baby and he's still not past the sitting on my finger if I keep perfectly motionless stage...

Also I'm buying another one soon, I orginally bought two birds, but one ate some grit and died as a consequence (well it's the only explanation I can think of since there was nothing out of the ordinary with him, he was the only one I saw picking at the grit - which the pet shop told me budgies do.) I don't want to leave Skyler all alone during the day. Plus he must get so bored. He's got nothing to do when I'm out except eat, swing and chirp at himself.

xo

My budgie is a Sky Blue Pied, around 11/12 weeks old at the moment.
I keep getting some people saying it's a male, then others saying it's a female.
Please help me! I don't want to name my bird until I'm certain of it's sex!!

The photographs were taken today.
(any name suggestions wouldn't go unappreciated either! ^.^)

Thanks!

I just got a call from my mother today. My little goldie-bird passed away a few hours ago. I was unable to be there with him, because I'm at friggin' college now...but according to them, he was cupped in their hands and passed away peacefully.

Death comes to everyone, I suppose. What is given is taken away. Little goldie was the cutest little bird I ever have, and I am thankful for the good times we had with each other. I only wish I'd taken more pictures of him when he was alive...maybe I have some stashed away somewhere. I'll check, and post if I find any ^^

Peace be with you all, everybody.

Just a few pictures behind the cut... I've now had him for about three months, he's a great bird :D

My budgie's going through his first molt... and boy is he cranky! Sometimes he wants me to itch his head, other times he wants to nip my finger, and over the past two days he's taken to "crying" whenever he feels he is wronged ("But, Boo, I just wanted to move you back onto my shirt because you're scratching up my skin running up and down my neck and across my should-- Gah! Okay... okay... spoiled little brat...").  Anyone else's bird experiencing what I fondly call "PMS"-- "Peri-Molt Syndrome"?

Graham ~!

Brie~!

Winston loves it when we play with his cutie toy girlfriend!

He does his little "I'm a handsome boy" dance for her.

Another one of Winston's favorite pastimes is to hang out on various portions of me and/or my husband. When I wear my pajamas with the trees and owls on them, Winston always chooses to perch on top of a branch!

And then...

...obviously full of millet...

...snuggled up between the knees of mommy and daddy...

...he falls asleep.

PS: And speaking of millet...

Here is a picture that my daughter drew on the white board across from Winston's cage:

I've been having a lot of trouble getting my budgie to start eating "healthy" food.  Fresh fruits and veggies just don't seem to tempt my little Boo into eating.

When I take out his seeds to coax him into eating fresh food... he doesn't touch it and just waits for me to replace his food in the afternoon before chowing down.

I've also tried mixing some pellets into his diet so that he gets some sort of nutritional supplement, but he just picks them out and eats his seed...

:( any suggestions? I don't want my bird to get fatty liver disease or a tumor because he doesn't like to eat the good stuff!

It's been a long time since I've taken pictures of Winston:

I got a letter from my landlord today stating that on Monday, all apartments will be sprayed for ants and roaches. In the letter, it said to keep all pets in the bedrooms with the door shut, but I am afraid that the fumes will seep into the bedroom and hurt or kill my budgies. So, I was planning on leaving them with my boyfriend for the day. Have any of you guys experienced this? How long was it until it was safe to bring your budgies back?

Ok, so I'm planning on getting a couple budgies, and I've read that giving them fruit as treats is a good idea. But their beaks are so small, do I have to cut up the fruit? Like, could I put a whole strawberry or a small (as in human bite-sized) piece of melon in? Is there anything you wished you'd known after you first got budgies? I've read up on them on the net, and I want to take as good a care of them as possible. I'll post pics of my new babies when I get them. :) TIA.

A couple of weeks ago, I found a weird twig-looking feather at the bottom of my parkeet's cage. This morning, he has another one kind of sticking out from his tail. I'm assuming these are famous blood feathers, but it just looks so weird, I wanted to make sure. He is perfectly healthy, by the way...it's just his mommy who's nervous :)

Hi all, I'm Rae, been lurking a bit. I had a question about my budgie Leece My younger cousins were staying over last week  and I went out one night  , came back the next day  and was told from my father that  the youngest cousin had been a bit "rough" with Leece. He said  he walked in  to the living room and she was squawking to get away from sarah ( youngest cousin) .  She didn't handle the bird after that but it seems the Leece is afraid of everyone now and won't voluntarily hop out of her cage anymore. Is this a form of trauma for her and will she get back to  her old self? Thanks.

Hi everyone, I'm new to this community, but not new to budgies. My fiancee bought me my second one on Sunday, which we decided to name Jet. My first one, Spike, passed away suddenly in '06 when he was only 3 1/2 years old.

Jet is settling in slowly. I assume he's only three months old or so because he has lots of stripes on his head. I assume he's eating a little bit, (I never saw him do it yet) and tonight he was finding his chirp & preening. Finally, here's a pic of the little guy:

Heres a couple photos of my Pita on his jungle gym!

Found this and just had to share:

While I've heard that rhubarb and apricots are not good for budgies, how about pumpkin?

I'm posting this here because you all might appreciate the humor:

After holding Winston the budgie, who is molting, for a good long while, my husband said, "I've been turd and feathered."

You know. I am so careful. The kids know about bird safety and that if they get on the floor or go into a room they aren't supposed to, that they have to walk slowly and be aware of their surroundings. They are 3 and 5.

I always thought that if the step on accident was EVER going to happen, it would be the kids. I'm SO CAREFUL. So why in my infinite wisdom and carefulness, could I not look under my feet just this once?

Now he's gone. My Short Bus is gone. And I did it.

I've never been so heart broken. He was only a year old. He lived only long enough to climb into my hand and snuggle there to die. At least it was fast.

I will miss him so much.

.... Okay.. molting. So yeah.

What is "normal" and what isn't so "normal" about it?

I'm asking this because... it seems like my little Jangles is going through a molt.. for the third time.. just this year.

Is that normal? Or is this something I should be worried about?

He's being such a cranky-face... lol
