Parakeets Skateboard II

Forget bird cages - we've found a flock of budgies with their own Sydney, Australia, apartment.

And they don't even have to bother flying... they skateboard instead.

Move over Skippy, there's a new star in town or two or three, in fact, skating in a park near you. They're ready for action after a couple of warm-ups.

These budgies are a labor of love for Trieste Visier.

In fact, the apartment is really for THEM - she lives elsewhere.
She started with one as a pet then quickly found a knack for training.

And not just for skate practice, they also load and unload shopping carts. And enjoy a sing-along.

Trieste is putting a book together of her birds' best tricks.

And hopes it, too, will fly off the shelves.

Skateboarding Parakeets Popular

Sydney, Australia (CBS) -- A group of parakeets, or "budgies" as they call them Down Under, has picked up a popular pastime: skateboarding.

The parakeets have taken over a Sydney apartment, and they like to skateboard around it.

The birds are ready for action, and after a couple of warm-ups, they line up on a window-sill for a go on the ramp.

Taking care of the budgies is a labor of love for Trieste Visier. In fact, she keeps the extra apartment just for her birds, while she lives elsewhere.

Visier became hooked on the budgies after she had one as a pet. She began training them soon after that.

The trainer says she begins teaching the birds at about 6 a.m. She teaches them a number of tricks, like unloading and loading small shopping carts, singing, and of course balance.

Visier is currently writing a book about training parakeets.
