My Budgie Is Getting it on With a Toy?
Well i have 2 budgies. (1 female 1 male and they are brother and sister) I have to keep them in separate cages because they always try to get it on, so to speak. Well we put this little grooming toy in the male’s cage and now it thinks its another bird. It feeds it and tries to mate with it and im a little freaked out…is this normal or is my bird crazy?

Your bird is perfectly normal.
My mother’s bird used to do the same thing to his little bird toy as well…not to mention my mother’s hand when she was trying to feed him.
Normal bird! Very normal bird! All is well…at least, he’s happy! Good luck!
It’s perfectly normal. Birds take care of themselves like humans, dogs, and any other animal. My lovebird likes a little blanket that we call his humpy. One of my cockatiels just uses the door of the cage.
Sounds like the male Budgie would make an excellent father. He doesn’t have a real female in the cage so he’s modeling behavior of a mated Budgie.
It’s totally normal and at least it’s not you. The toy won’t lead him on or break his heart
If he starts getting aggressive toward you, you may want to remove the toy.
I thought my daughters Scaly breasted Lorikeet was nuts as it does the same thing as yours. It’s just in love with it’s toy. Your budgie must have a wonderful personality. Don’t fret it’s OK just randy..Andy, the Lorikeet gets it off on my hand..it’s funny to watch and when he hasn’t seen me for a while he kisses me so madly. I rescued him from a dog and he;s the most adorable thing and with the best personality i have ever seen in a bird.
Well you took away the real thing, so he is, um, well, doing what birds do!!! By the way, think about what your depriving him of. As long as they have no nest box, who cares if he loves his sister??
You would get desperate too.
You answer your own question knowing it wants to breed.
Looks like almost eveyone agrees that this is normal behavior, under the circumstances. If it embarrases you when company comes around you can switch to another kind of toy, one that is less bird-like.
Your bird might enjoyone or more mirrors, so it would not feel so alone. Or, bring sis back into the cage.
