Can you put a Quail in with a single (very timid) budgie?

My budgie is still a young’un, I just got one this time because I previously had two birds…made the mistake of introducing a new budgie into the equation even after I’d given the new one a home at my friends, my two continued to squabbled were never the same again :( Having just one bird makes me think he’s lonely though! Despite my efforts to tame him as best I can motivate him with bird toys around the cage, he generally doesn’t do much…I don’t want to get another budgie because firstly I won’t be able to tame him as easily anymore, and secondly….well, I know full well what they can be like, cute as they seem! o.O So I thought that maybe a different, more timid species would be nicer company for an extremely quiet, extremely timid bird..? I thought maybe Quails would be a good idea because they *seem* to be quite well-natured. Though of course, I could be horribly wrong! And so I need advice…

All answers appreciated! :]

What homemade toys are safe for a bird? Or things around the house are safe for a bird to play with?

I have a parakeet and a lovebird. My parakeet doesn’t really like to play with anything but the expensive bell toys, but my lovebird will play with anything. My parakeet does love to chew on my baskets which I hate. Is there anything close to a basket that he will like that he can chew on? He doesn’t like bird chew toys.
