I have been told it’s very bad health to keep pet birds, in their cages in your living space, is this true?
I have been told by a friend, that i should not keep my pet birds, in their cages in our living room. Because we can easily contract diseases such as Psittacosis just from breathing in their feathers/feather dust etc. I clean out their cages often and they are never kept in filth etc. We have a budgie and two cockatiels. We are getting a handraised Eclectus parrot and a cinnamon green cheek conure. They will all have their own space and own cage. Which will live in our loungeroom. As you can probably tell, im a big time bird person.
Hi there,,
she is studying nursing actually, and was informed in a lecture about it. I don’t think she is a bird person at all.
I regularly change their paper, clean it out and when im home all the windows are open to let in fresh air.
Can keeping budgies be a health risk?
I head from a friend that keeping birds can be a risk to your health. my mum used to know someone that kept pigeons on his allotment and then he got a disease called Siticosis (or something like that!!) and ended up dying from it. I know that these were pigeons but I’ve heard that it is possible to get something similar from budgies. Is this true? I would love to know what people think ![]()
Me and my dad have mild asthma but we have other pets and it doesn’t bother us much at all really…
I would also only be keeping one budgie!
What sort of risk would there be if you have asthma- like i say we only have it very mildly
how can i get my parakeets..budgies in better health then they are now?
i have a few females that have laid eggs and raised a few babay budgies..some of the females are to weak to fly..but can run, jump and feed the birds..and sing..they just can’t fly..other females are in super health..same enviorment..i give them breeding food..and vitami nwater for them..what can i give them to make them better?
