I really want my budgies to mate!!!?
I have 2 budgies that have been bonding into each other, giving each other food, male sang to the female, and they can’t live with out each other. Now, they are 1 years old and i want them to mate. I put them in a separate cage and the cage is pretty big. The pet owner said that 3 budgies can fit in but i put the two budgie lovers. So basically, I separated them from their other two best buddy. It has been two days that they are in their new cage and the male doesn’t bond to the female, female is scared. They don’t even chirp. I even gave them privacy but all they do is chirp calling their best buddies that i have separated from otherwise they are most likely quite. I even sperated them from different rooms but they still chirp and scream to each other..
((
In their breeding cage i have..
- fresh water and seeds.
- lots of their favorite greens (broccoli spinach brossil sprouts) that they have not touched
- big box budgie nest that i bought from pet shop and its for budgies
- minerals and cuttle bone
They are really quite and seem frightened.
Any helpful advises?
Thanks alot
Why wont my female parakeet mate?
Ok well people say the females cere turns brownish or tanish and it looks all crusty but my parakeets cere is white and a little but of baby blue in it. How come it wont turn brown? Im pretty sure she is over a year old because i asked for a older budgie from the breeder because i owned older parakeets and didnt want to bring a baby parakeet home.
So do all females ceres turn brown when ready to mate?
I also put a nesting box in the cage 5 days ago.
My female budgie is sitting on eggs and her mate has just died. Should I get a replacement straight away?
We have just come home to find our male budgie has died (we have a realy big cage and he can’t fly and has fallen down and landed on his head!!) The female just laid an egg 2 days ago and is sitting on her nest. She came out to look for him and seemed to be quite distressed because he’s not there anymore. Will she be okay? Should I get a replacement male to help feed her whilst she’s nesting – or should I leave it for a while before I get a replacement?
Thanks for all your answers guys. It’s now Sunday morning and I was woken about 6.30am by Shaney (female budg) tweeting away looking for Ross, her mate. She is still shouting for him but has finally gone back into the nesting box to sit on the egg. Am I right in saying that an hour of non-sitting is too long for an egg to survive?
Anyway, she’s obviously quite distressed. I’ll try and keep her distracted today with lots of different food treats and mirrors.
Cheers
How can my birds mate?
I had a female budgie and a male budgie together for about 4 years. They won’t mate! Is something wrong or were they meant to be like that?
Is it OK for budgies to mate a lot?
…Even if the hen is in the egg-laying period? When she goes out of the nest box to stretch, she ends up mating with her pair. Will she produce eggs again?
She has laid her 2nd egg now and she’s sitting on it.
