transition from budgie to lovebird?
I’m considering taking my budgie’s (berry and kiwi [2]) to a pet store and trading them in for a baby love bird. at the moment i have a cage that’s about 35 inches tall and 17 inches wide: it’s bars are spaced 1/2 of an inch. i have four perches that are set out for parakeet’s feet (1/2 thick), two food dishes (average size [came with the cage]), parakeet food (seeds and such), one cuddle bone, and about 4/12 toys (i made about five of these)that hang in the cage at this time.–i rotate the toys about every other week. i also have a parakeet GYM with a ladder, a bell, a swing, and a few perches (8″x8″). okay, my question is, if i would to trade in my parakeets for a one love bird, what changes would i need to make to the cage?
ex:
-bigger perches?
-different toys?
-smaller/bigger/wider/taller cage?
-more toys?
-etc.
anything you can think of that i might need to know so my lovebird can live comfortably and happy. GO!

Home For a Parakeet?
I was at a pet store and the store had one English Budgie in a 10 gallon fish tank with hamster bedding on the bottom of the cage,a perch, food bowl, water bowl and a bunch of toys is that ok for a bird to live in? Good or Bad idea?

I need help with my first pet bird! Its a budgie?
I just bought a budgie today at a pet store. This is my first pet bird. It is young, probably 4 months old, and I don’t know what to do. I put his food in his cage and water, but he just stands there on the bottom of his cage doing nothing. Is this normal? Also what else can I feed him. I need help on caring for this bird and I really do not know what to do. Also he is not that scared of my hand, and when I put my hand in his cage, he doesn’t move too much. I need help!

Help with budgie diet?
I have two budgies and when I first got them I wasn’t aware that I needed to feed them anything other than bird seed. The person at the pet store who sold them to me told me that the seed had all the nutrients that they needed. I recently stumbled across some information that said it was not enough and after further research I have figured out that my birds do need more than just seed to be healthy.
I am just wondering if anyone has any good tips on how to get my birds to eat veggies and fruit? I have tried putting it in their food dishes alone and mixed with seed and they just seem to pick it out or not eat it at all.
I was also wondering how long it is okay to leave fresh food in the cage for? I know eggs and things can only stay for an hour or so but with broccoli or carrots or something can they stay for a whole day? longer?
thanks for the help!

Would this cage be good for a budgie?
I’m thinking of getting a Budgie, So I’ve been doing some research on them. I was looking at cages at some local stores.. we don’t actually have a pet store near, so choices are limited. The local feed store has a cage like this http://www.thepamperedpetmart.com/page/TPPM/PROD/Prevue/3151 Would this be a good cage for a budgie? possible two? I’m pretty sure i only want one.. but there is a chance we may get two. Would this cage be big enough?
Also any good websites about budgies, would be helpful.
I’d also love to see pics of your birds and there cages ![]()
Thanks!
yeah, the dimensions were on that site..
Cage Measures: 18”L x 18”W 31-1/2”H
Height Including Stand: 57″
Wire Spacing: 3/4”
Thanks for everyone’s answers, i didn’t think about the spacing being a problem.
