Sick budgie?
I have a bird avairy with 4 budgies outside and this morning one of my budgies was sitting on the floor of the aviary. I took her out and put her in a seperate cage in a quiet warm room in the house and when returning from work a short while ago went to check on her. She did eat and she did poop, although there is some poop stuck to the feathers around her bum.
Should I try to wipe some of the poop from her bum? She’ll bite me I’m sure, but I’d like to at least try to do something for her.
She is sitting on the floor of the little cage with her eyes half closed. Is there anything I can do for her? I don’t know of any bird vets around the area, but might have to phone around to see whether I can find one.
Any advice would be appreciated.
She kinda looks like her feathers is fluffed up.
Thanks to everyone who answered. I took my budgie to an avian vet last night and he said that she had a respiratory infection and that he could give antibiotics however he wasn’t sure whether she would make it through the night and unfortunately she didn’t.

My parakeet stayed at the bottom of his cage like that for a month. He seemed to lose the use of his legs. He was still eating and drinking. He would get poop on his feathers and would get raw around his vent. My friend would hold him in a towel and I would clean him up. It was really stressful for him (but necessary) and one day after cleaning him up he died 5 minutes later.
Good luck with your bird.
Keep her as warm as possible and call a vet. I’d leave her bum alone, could be egg bound.
Nah it always gets stuck dont worry it will come off.
Um all u can do at the moment is to put a warm lamp near her cage and put a warm maybe a towel over the cage, which will help her. She needs rest, hope that helped.
with poop being stuck on her bum you should take her to a avain vet, thats telling me there is a illiness lurking in side her, and her sleeping isnt normal not on the bottom of the cage please take her if you want her to get better birds usually hide a illiness until its too late but you havea chance to save her good luck
Leave her bum alone. If you think she sick and there is something wrong with her call around for a local vet.
Better safe than sorry.
Generally by the time we can tell our avian friends are sick, it is serious. You are doing the right things, but it may need more specific treatment. If you want her to survive you’ll have to find an avian vet. Good luck and God Bless.
it sounds like shes egg bound,
id take her to a vet as sooon as possible.
and leave her butt alone, you might give her an infection.
Call a vet and leave her alone. If she’s sick, I heard there’s nothing much you can really do to a sick bird.
well i had a budgie too and it fell from my hand which was from quite a height..at that very night my budgie was like yoursonly it wasnt eating or drinking.it was still a baby.at that very night it died.so its not too late.quick!!!!go see a vet and saveur budgie
She is Ill,and needs the Vet ASAP,and Antibiotics real soon.Don’t do anything else to stress her,it will make it worse,I know you want to help her otherwise, but not now,she needs a Vet ,now.
Birds are really good at hiding illness. By the time you see something wrong, it is already serious. Leave the poop on her butt and get her to a vet immediately. Keep her warm with food and water in easy reach on the floor with her.
I don’t mean to scream; but I can’t stress this enough: GET HER TO A VET IMMEDIATELY.
