Question by Taylor Culby: What are some healthy foods to feed to breeding budgies?
I’ve heard of feeding breeding pairs of budgies egg food and bits of chicken while breeding. Are there any good recipes that help keep breeding pairs healthy and in condition?

I keep egg food available to my budgies year-round. A great source of protein, it’s also very good for the parents to eat and regurgitate for the chicks, and it’s soft enough for the chicks to eat when they’re being weaned. Dark leafy greens such as wheatgrass (sold as cat grass in the pet store), turnip or mustard greens, apples, orange slices, etc.
Also be sure to offer a high calcium grit along with a cuttlebone. Cuttlebones are often insufficient sources of calcium for budgies.
